As a security measure, many high-speed ISPs (Including PrairieWave and Midcontinent) are now blocking
several incoming and outgoing network ports.
While normally this is a good thing, it does affect some valid network traffic. Specifically, this
has caused some problems recently with DailyPost.com e-mail users who connect to the Internet
via these providers. If you are having trouble sending e-mail,
follow the instructions provided here to resolve the problem. These instructions are specifically for
Microsoft Outlook Express. If you are using an e-mail client other than Outlook Express
(Outlook, Netscape Mail, etc) please see the help section of your e-mail client for more information.
IMPORTANT!!! If you are not having trouble sending e-mail, DO NOT FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS! This change is only necessary for users who currently cannot send e-mail. Open Microsoft Outlook Express. Click on the Tools Menu, then click on Accounts.
The Internet Accounts window should now be visible. Click the Mail tab, then double-click your DailyPost.com e-mail account (shown here in blue as mail.dailypost.com).
The Mail Properties window should now be visible.
Click the Servers tab.
Verify that the Incoming Mail (POP3) and Outgoing Mail (SMTP) servers are set to mail.dailypost.com, and that the box labeled "My Server Requires Authentication" is checked.
Click the Advanced Tab.
Under Server Port Numbers, the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) should currently be set to 25 (as shown above highlighted in blue). Change this number to 26.
Click OK at the bottom of the properties window, then click Close at the bottom of the Internet Accounts window. You should now be back to the Outlook Express main window, and your computer should be configured to workaround the filtered port. If you have made these changes and continue to have problems, please contact us using our online feedback form (by clicking here) or call us at (605) 886-2135. PrairieWave has posted the following information regarding port blocking: http://www.prairiewave.com/support/internet/portblock.htm |
